Toronto Moving Rates
Moving rates in the GTA
start at about $50/ hour for a small 12 foot van with 2 people and
climb about $10 per foot for the length of the truck. A 16 foot
truck would be $70 per hour and a 20 foot truck well over 100/ hour. There
is also a charge per mile of travel and often a fuel surcharge.
The minimum travel time
starts at about 1 hour and the minimum move time is 2 hours. The
minimum moving charge in the GTA for just a few small items is about
$200.00. Prices at the end of the month can double, especially May,
June July, August and September.
Big reputable movers pay
there employees better, starting from about $25/ hour and charge
then out at $50 to $70 per hour each. They always recommend a 3 man
crew. Professional movers are more carful and this extra care means
more time spent on the move.
Unexpected extra charges
may include a surcharge if a large moving truck is unable to
maneuver to, or from, your home and a shuttle truck is required. There is also
an extra charge if the loading/unloading entrance from your old home, or to your new
home, is longer then 10 meters. Climbing Stairs may also be
extra.
For a short move expect to
pay a minimum of about $700.00 for a 1 bedroom and $1,000.00 for a 2
bedroom apartment and about $2000.00 for a house. Long distance
moves are calculated by weight and prices range from $2,000.00 to
well over $7,000.00 depending upon distance and volume.
